Hostel Design: Group Work

Camouflage

Since the site is deep in the forest, it has the potential to differentiate the guests’ experience between living in the woods and living in the Craig House Hotels. We would like them to experience the camping experience as long as enjoying the natural landscape while showing our respect to the well-preserved lands. In order to achieve the goals, the buildings would try to lower the contrast between materials and the surroundings, becoming the camouflages that immerge into the land; the building structures and pathways would follow the contour lines of the slope as much as possible; the houses would be off-the-grid, without electricity and plumbing. As a result, a new type of building which is the service and activity center - would be needed. It contains the basic infrastructures for guests to share. Together with the firepits, we would like to create a camping village for the guests to enjoy the outdoor experience. Even staying inside the house, we would like the guests to enjoy different views of the landscape while having rest, so each type of building would face multiple directions for unique views.
